Yakar Center for Tradition and Creativity

Founded in 1992, by Rabbi Dr. Michael Rosen, The Yakar - Center for Tradition and Creativity is an open Community in Jerusalem, which brings together Jews from different backgrounds and orientations for learning, prayer, and social action. A Judaism that is spiritual, welcoming and connected to the real world. Yakar is both, an Orthodox Synagogue which offers an intimate and intense davening experience, and a Center for Tradition and Creativity offering both day and evening programs, lectures, and events which focus on burning issues facing Israel and the Jewish World today, hosted by our Center for Social Concern.

Yakar believes in a commitment to learning Torah that is relevant to our deepest being while upholding our intellectual integrity. Yakar challenges it's community to think deeply and creatively about their identity and its relationship with world at large. Yakar invites you to join one of our many learning opportunities: the Overseas Learning Program, the 'Kloyze'-Evening Beit Midrash, and Women's Study Program. When you participate in a Yakar program you affect it, change it, and direct it.

The Yakar Learning Program welcomes adult students of all ages and backgrounds who are interested in strengthening their commitment through open-minded, intensive study and spiritual exploration. Join us for Kabbalat Shabbat, intensive study programs or for one of our many events featured on our website. During the three weeks leading up to Rosh Hashana (Elul), we will be hosting introductory sessions for all students – come check us out.

''I found Yakar to be a wonderfully warm, embracing and inspiring community, in which I experienced a profoundly deep, rich and spiritual growth in my Jewish living and identity. I attribute this to the deep, genuine faith exuded by the teachers at Yakar, the spirited debate they engaged us in, and the transformative experience of ''davening''. I often revisit in my mind the many memorable moments I had at Yakar. It is learning that stays with you. If you are seeking to explore and enrich your personal experience with G-d and Judaism, Yakar is certainly the place to find this.''
